Walk on the sunny side
The frigid temperatures in winter, the heat and humidity of summer, traffic jams, snarky people, dirty dishes piled in the sink. There are so many things that can trigger a black mood faster than you can flip a switch.
What do you do when that dark cloud starts sliding into your consciousness? Do you do everything you can to keep that blackness away? Or do you take comfort in waiting for the other shoe to drop? Wallowing in the negative?
Sure, I know, life changes. Sh*t happens. Life ain’t all peaches and cream, but I think it’s so much easier to walk on the sunny side.
Do you know that the experts say that living with a positive attitude can make you more creative, improve your relationships, increase your chances of success in just about anything you take on, make better decisions and even be likely to live longer than your neighbourhood Debbie Downer?
Imagine that. Sounds pretty good, no? Ready to take it for a spin?
There are many things you can do to turn that frown upside down, or keep the shadows at bay – stop whining, stop negative thoughts before they even take shape, exercise, sing, surround yourself with positive people. Do something nice for someone else.
But I think one of the most effective tips is in the fake it ‘til you make it realm. Don’t hate me – just smile. Think happy thoughts. Delight in little pleasures. Laugh. Laughter is contagious or it’s the best medicine. Maybe it’s both; works either way. (Need more proof, try this one.)
Ultimately, your attitude is your choice. You can simply choose to be happy. Choose to think positively.
Time to turn that frown upside down. Move on over to the sunny side of the street.
You can do it, Girl. I know you can.
