Turn left instead of right

Are you bored, tired of the daily grind? Burnt out, bummed out? Or just zoned out? Why not seek out a little adventure?

Skydiving or parasailing may not be in your bailiwick, but that’s not a problem. Adventure doesn’t have to be big – just shake things up a little. All you need is a little curiosity and imagination.

The experts tell us that even small changes to daily routines can make a positive difference in your creativity and happiness. Boost energy levels and generally infuse a little stimulation into your life.

What do you think? Couldn’t it be fun to mix it up a bit? Do something new? Some place new to have coffee. Some place new to buy your groceries. A new little book store, gift shop or clothing boutique. Take a different route home. It can be little quickies. Simple things.

Get in your car and drive somewhere new. Stuck in the house? Make yourself a cup of tea and imagine you’re sipping that cuppa with the Queen, the Dalai Lama or Elizabeth Gilbert. Whatever floats your boat. Have fun. Let yourself daydream.

You could be a tourist in your own city. Jump on one of those hop on/hop off tour buses or buy a city guide book and check out the different attractions and neighbourhoods. Take public transit from one end of the route to the other. See what you can see.

Take a walk on the, ever so slightly, wild side. Explore. Turn left instead of right. Enjoy!

  • You’ve reminded me, now that I’m vored with my usual walking routes close to my house, of the way I explored the city when I first moved here last fall. A few times, I took a bus to a different neighbourhood and wandered there. I found beauty, great spots for lunch, and learned to navigate here at a deeper level…understand the people even.

    Time to get back to that…
