Are you living a very comfortable, nice life, a.k.a. stuck in a rut? Are you pretty much living in the same thing, day in, day out kind of way? Get up-work-home-walk-the-dog-dinner-tv-bed. I’m sure you are not as fastidious as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, but don’t you ever wonder where that carefree, anything goes kind of girl of your 20s went? She probably has a few years on her now, but I bet there’s a bit of her hanging around inside and would love to break out and shake that booty.
As human beings, for the most part, we have a built-in perseverance, which is great for getting a job done but it’s a short, slippery slope right into getting stuck in the ‘same old, same old’. It may be comfortable, but it’s just plain bad for you. Your brain just shuts off. Someone once said that if you want to live a memorable life, you have to do something memorable.
Ready to climb out of your daily grind? You can do it in tiny steps; it doesn’t have to be earth shattering. Take a different route to work. Put your other shoe on first. Have tea instead of coffee. Order Thai, instead of pizza. Do your weekly shop at the farmers’ market instead of the superstore. Try something different every day for a week or two, see how it feels. And when you’re feeling adventurous go for something just a little further out of your comfort zone or even a little scary. You’ll see getting uncomfortable can be a good thing.
When you think about it, isn’t now the perfect time to step off the hamster wheel and try something new? Who’s with me? What’s it going to be?
What are you going to try this week that’s out of your comfort zone? Tell us in the comments below. We’d love to hear.
